Twenty20 World Cup 2010 - The Final Four

The Super Eights are over and we are down to just four teams. Australia will play Pakistan in one semi-final while England plays Sri Lanka in the other.

England have only improved as the tournament has progressed. They lose their opening game of the tournament to the West Indies in a rain-shortened game. England posted a competitive 5/191 but the West Indies knew the rain was coming and their 2/60 from 5.5 overs was enough to win.

The next day England had to play Ireland in a must win game and this time the rain benefited them. The game was a no result which put England into the Super Eights.

In the opening game of the Super Eights, England took care of Pakistan. Pakistan scored 9/147 and England made it with three balls and six wickets to spare. Kevin Pietersen led the way with an unbeaten 73.

The next game against South Africa was the key one a win there would put them in the semi-finals and avoid the final game being a must-win game. England's 168 proved to be more than enough when South Africa capitulated for 129. The wickets were shared around between Ryan Sidebottom, Stuart Broad, Michael Yardy and Graeme Swann.

After Pakistan defeated South Africa, it meant that England's final game against New Zealand was meaningless for them. Still they won to knock the Kiwis out and throw Pakistan a lifeline.

They will now play Australia and that is a massive mountain to climb. They already met once and Australia smashed them by 34 runs. In every match Australia has been more than impressive. They just haven't won they have crushed the opposition into the ground. It's impossible to find an online bookmaker who doesn't have Australia as favorites.

In a semi-final anything can happen and Sri Lanka will hope that this is the case against England. For the most part they have been playing good cricket but the loss to Australia brought them down a few notches. Mahela Jayawardene has been the player of the tournament but failed against Australia and then against India.

Australia has been playing flawless cricket and you would think this would continue against Pakistan. Pakistan have been their usual inconsistent self – it will come down to which Pakistan comes to the ground.
