Google's doodle on International Women’s Day

Google is commemorating International  Women's Day with a colourful
'doodle' made up of symbols representing women.

The well-known female gender symbol forms Google's 'G', while one of
Google's 'O's is represented by a flower.

Over 400 official events and activities are taking place around the
world in celebration of International Women's Day – an annual event
which has been observed since the early 1900s.

The theme of this year's event is: 'connecting girls, inspiring futures'.

Prime Minister David Cameron is using International Women's Day to
call for the elimination of violence and harassment against females.

He is due to sign a new European convention Cameron later today which
could lead to wolf whistling, street harassment and sexist remarks
against women being made illegal.

US President Barack Obama and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, as
well as countless celebrities, have also leant their support to
International Women's Day.
