CURVES are COOL

Move over size zero. Thin models on the ramp now don't generate awe. Indian women are realising that it is important to be curvy. Hyderabad Times talks to actors who believe being well toned is the buzzword today…

MANDIRA BEDI

When I was shooting for Khatron ke Khiladi, I had become so thin that I was almost a size zero. I realised that it made me very weak. I like to eat well and I also have a sweet tooth. I feel instead of depriving myself of good food, it's better to exercise. Size zero is possible only for a woman who is genetically thin and can maintain it. Otherwise, it's a very unrealistic goal. It's important to eat in moderation, exercise and look your best.
MALAIKA ARORA KHAN
Each to her own. Indian women have always been fuller and voluptuous. Come to think of healthy bodies, even short women are pleasantly plump these days and it is no use trying to look like someone and lose that shine on your face. I think being curvy is being healthy and I like my proportionate body and we have to stop promoting these reed sized women.
EESHA KOPPIKAR NARANG
I don't believe in having a size zero figure. I always feel a fit and healthy body will always bring out the best out of you. The way you carry yourself in life and what you wear adds to the glamour quotient. Did you know that one in every 200 women suffers from anorexia? What is the point of going through all this when you can't enjoy your life? Live your life to its fullest.
MAHIMA CHOUDHURY
I think this whole size zero concept is created by fashion houses in the west. But the trends are changing now. Even the size zero symbol Kareena Kapoor is less skinny now and is maintaining a better fitness regime. Our actors are
curvier than ever before now – and Kareena also looks leaner and fresher in 3 Idiots.
PAYAL ROHATGI
Post Bigg Boss, I had put on a few kilos and that's when I realised that Indian women are curvy and end up putting on weight at the wrong places because of the oily food they are exposed to everyday. I decided to cut that and become leaner and still maintain my curves in the last few months. I have shed a few kilos but am definitely not aiming for size zero. I think being leaner is in today. I have introduced kickboxing in my fitness regime.

NANDANA SEN
Aren't we making too big a deal of it these days? Slim or curvy, women are blessed with fabulously interesting bodies either way. I don't think our self image should be dependent on that. I strongly feel body types should not be viewed as being 'in' or 'out'. So if we're voluptuous, we should celebrate our femininity with full confidence and if we're naturally slender, let's proudly embrace that versatility and grace!
